A Powerful Ritual: De-cluttering your Mind & Heart to make space for 2022!

in Vibrant Living Blog

This year, I’m not gonna suggest you dump your New Year Resolutions and Vision Boards but I am suggesting you ponder some things related to the past year and take some time to go within to answer a few questions before your jump into manifesting your future in 2022!

So many of us are not sure what it is we really yearn for, desire, and want for ourselves. Most of us haven’t had the time and space to really consider what that might mean. And so when we rush to create vision boards and intention cards early on in the process, what tumbles out has very little to do with your real, deep down desires, and instead, has more to do with what you’re “supposed to” and “expected to” say and do. Sure, you may want to lose another 10lbs, but perhaps the real desire is that you want to feel seen, accepted, and loved exactly the way you are!

So instead of Resolutions and Vision Boards and I hope you'll take a little inward journey with me... A sort of decluttering of your body-mind and soul.

If we allow ourselves to intuitively follow the rhythms and cycles of nature, instead of the artificial construct of the Roman calendar year, you will find that winter is a time of release and deep processing. It is the time to slow down, to hibernate, let go, to grieve and to release, release, release! And come Spring, you'll have some more clarity around what you actually want!

Here’s a simple but powerful ritual to get this process started. You can start today, New Year’s Eve and continue through the dark of winter.

  •  Create some quiet time and space to tune in.
  •  Grab a journal or simply get some paper, crayons and pens
  •  Light a candle, burn some incense, or use a smudge stick.
  • Grab a cup or tea…. Do whatever you need to create energy that evokes a sense of comfort, calm and connection.

Take several deep breaths with extra long exhales, and listen to my heart centered Meditation or any other meditation that grounds and centers you.

Take a few minutes to walk through your year and jot down moments, events, experiences that were meaningful to you and impacted you in important ways. Moments both positive or negative.

Create a timeline to start and then go back to each moment if that's easier for you.

Jot down any particular emotions and experiences you’d like to release.

                                                Write them out!

What are some of the highs and lows of 2021

What events and experiences do you really want to cherish and remember? How will you do that?

Name a feeling, energy or experience you very deeply desire to bring forward with you?

What are some events and experiences you'd really like to process and let go?

What made you really angry, sad, alienated or horrified?

What made you really happy, filled with joy, hopeful?

Did you have moments or experiences of great humor and fun?

What are the relationships you treasure and want to hold on to?

What are some of the relationships you may want to let go?

Explore your job/career/parenting highs and lows.

What might be keeping you stuck?

SIT with all your emotions and acknowledge them as they surface.

Write out what you are feeling and experiencing without judgement. Tears, sadness, laughter, joy, grief, pain, panic, anxiety... let the feelings come and go.

When you feel done for the moment, or whenever you're ready, acknowledge the impact these experiences have had on you and make the choice to release them by burning them outside or in a fireplace. If fire seems scary or inaccessible to you,  create a way to shred them by hand as you begin the process of letting go.

New Year’s Eve is a great time to start but know that this is a process and you can repeat this ritual as you continue processing and working through what you want to release throughout the early parts of 2022.  Reach out to me if you’d like a little help along the way!

Finally, pick a word or two that really resonates deep down. Words, phrases or energy, that will help guide and support you through the winter. Be creative. Use those words or images as a mantra and reminder to ground and soothe you, as embark on this journey.

Then walk into the New Year with a new sense of possibilities!

I hope 2022 brings you your heart’s desires, good health and much prosperity!
